MARSEILLE

As a city of Art and Culture, Marseille has more than one marvel to offer, with its 26-centuries-old existence and its blend of traditional and modern.
The city remains deeply marked by its past and continues to excavate the ruins of cities built on top of each other over the centuries.  It is a trail which leads the visitor from its Greek and Roman origins up to the modern day and the splendid architectural achievements of the 21st century, taking in the medieval religious foundations, the 16th-century fortifications, the wealthy residences of the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as the many notable buildings of the 19th century. The city has a wealth of monuments, sites and museums to be explored. Sunshine is another attraction of this pleasant place to live. In addition, the Mistral gives it a light which has inspired famous painters such as Cézanne, Braque, Dufy, Derain, Marquet and others, who came to paint in the little harbour town of L'Estaque.

AIX EN PROVENCE:

City of water, city of art: in everyone's mind this city has grown up and is still developing with this dual identity. However, Aix also knows how to blend different periods and cultures. Open to the world, it is a city of human dimension where a preserved heritage and the city of the future live together in perfect harmony. Here, it is all about colour and sensation, the light in the sky, the golden stones of the walls, the translucent green of the fountains, the shadow of the plane trees, the surprises of festival nights.

ARLES:

First a Celtic settlement, then colonised by the Greeks, Arles was made a Roman city by Caesar who settled the veterans of his legions there in 46 BC. This was the first golden age of the “Little Rome of the Gauls” which would become an important religious centre in early Christian times. Ruined and crippled by the invasions of the early Middle Ages, the city was reborn in the 12th century, and the splendour of its medieval monuments bears witness to the vitality and wealth of that period.
The 17th and 18th centuries saw the construction of a large number of private mansions which, today, still constitute the charm of the old centre, where several listed monuments are grouped together, the heritage of 2,000 years of history.
Since 1981, the collection of Roman and Romanesque monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and Arles today is a City of Art and History. It is also member of the AECC (Alliance of European Cities of Culture).

AVIGNON:

Avignon has a talent for sharing its prestigious past and its style of living. The "daughter" of the Rhône and of Provence, it offers both an incredibly rich and varied heritage and a vibrant cultural life. The Palais des Papes (Pope's Palace) and the Pont d’Avignon bridge, monuments that are symbolic of this town, are classified as World Heritage sites by UNESCO. The museums house collections of art from the 13th century to the modern day and offer the finest exhibitions. It is a real pleasure to wander the streets exploring the past, taking advantage of the shady terraces, a cruise along the Rhône or a walk on the river island of La Barthelasse.
Avignon has entertainment all year round. Its summer theatre festival offers the excellence of contemporary works and fills the city with a festive atmosphere.
The permanent theatres, the opera and many associations enliven the other seasons with performances and meetings. Cheval Passion (equestrian festival), les Hivernales de la Danse (dance), Altera Rosa (rose show), and events linked to the Côtes du Rhône, of which Avignon is the capital, are special times to explore the city and enjoy its entertainment.
